AUSTIN (KXAN) – On Sept. 1, House Bill 2170 took effect with the intent to address the most commonly reported complaint KXAN highlighted in its “TxTag Troubles” investigative project: billing issues. KXAN revealed many of those complaints reported errors in processing toll charges among customers with auto-pay accounts, resulting in surprise bills and late fees. “There is a lack of transparency and adequate communication between some toll entities andcustomers. Customers are not always adequately notified that there is a problem processing their payment,” according to the bill’s statement of intent. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Organized Retail Theft Task Force, a result of House Bill 1826 that took effect Sept. 1, has received ten appointments Tuesday from Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.The initiative was designed to examine the impact of organized retail crime in Texas and provide guidance to those affected by retail crime on how they can combat and manage it, according to a release from the comptroller's office. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police said Tuesday detectives need the public's help identifying a suspect in connection with a burglary of vehicle in Central Austin on Sunday. According to APD, the man got into the victim's car and stole several items before leaving in what police said could be a dark gray Land Rover with black rims. Police said the man is around 20 years old, Hispanic and has short, black hair and trimmed facial hair.They said he has a tattoo on his right inner forearm and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and dark, blue jeans.Austin Police said the crime happened in the 4000 block of Duval Street on Sunday morning around 5:45.
